Pine Furniture
Assembly
& Finish
Most of the
assembly work is completed when you receive your Woodmill of Muskoka
Furniture product and the remaining assembly process can normally be completed
in under 10 minutes. Each product
comes with clear setup instructions to assist you with creating
your fine furniture.
The most important
consideration in ensuring that your furniture will give you many,
many years of pleasure is the finish. It is essential that the furniture
should be properly finished, otherwise the elements will take their
toll on the wood and you will not have happy or good-looking furniture.
You may choose
to use either stain or paint. We recommend using a natural stain
rather than a solid stain or paint as this allows the natural grain
to show through while protecting the wood. The beauty of Canadian
white pine lies in the natural grain and this is why we feel strongly
that a natural stain is the correct finish. If you prefer to use
a solid stain or paint, you must not use a finish that will seal
the wood . . . for example an acrylic or enamel. Wood needs to breathe
- expand or contract - according to the season and the temperature.
If you seal the wood, when the time comes for the wood to expand
or contract naturally, your finish will crack and the elements will
get underneath the sealant and rot the wood.
We recommend
applying two coats of stain before you first place the furniture
out of doors. If a further coat is applied the following year, you
will be able to enjoy fine looking, comfortable furniture in your
garden for many years to come.
